Did the first century church of
Christ designate one day a year to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus
Christ and call it Easter? The short answer is no!
Do I believe it is wrong to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ? No, I do not, however, Christians are not commanded to celebrate His resurrection.
FROM WHERE DID THE WORD EASTER ORIGINATE?
Easter was derived from the name of a pagan goddess.
Is the word Easter in the Bible? Yes, but it is found in very few translations.
Acts 12:4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.(KJV)
Acts 12:4 When he had seized him, he put him in prison, delivering him to four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to bring him out before the people.(NASB)
The word Easter or Passover was not given as an instruction to Christians as a celebration.
In Acts 12:4 Easter or Passover was used to denote a time in history, not to legitimized them as a Christian celebration.
It makes no difference which word is use, Easter or Passover, the message of Acts 12:4 remains the same; a time in history.
Celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ at will, it is not a sin. Remember that the apostles nor the first century church of Christ did not designated one day a year as Easter to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
